Lending a Helping Hand

On my Christmas tree hang numerous homemade ornaments my children created in elementary school. I cherish them!

Yesterday, first period art students helped a classroom of kindergartners create their own ornaments--iron bead ornaments to be exact.

Another generation of bead ornaments will soon be making their way into homes and onto those Christmas trees.  Merry Christmas everyone!!

Winding Down the Semester . . .

With the end of the semester in sight, the Art Room has been full of activity.  That said, things are beginning to wind down as projects wrap up.  Houston Rodeo Art is completed!  We will be matting  after the break.  Three projects have been going on in addition to finishing up the rodeo art.

The first project we embarked upon . . .  making story stones.

The process began by making salt dough as I didn't think I could find 100+ smooth river stones--maybe next time :)

Two different classes made two batches.  Once the dough was made and rolled out, we used small glass containers to make the cookie shaped stones.  These baked for approximately 4 hours and the next day they were ready to be painted. We used acrylics and colored sharpies. (Sharpies are the way to go!)

Here they are, bagged and ready to be handed out to the elementary kids.  They dried for several days out on cookie sheets, but I didn't take a single picture!  Hopefully, you can see through the bags ok.

There are 176 stones!!!

We delivered them to all of elementary and demonstrated how to use them.

Kindergarten was a HOOT!!!!

This guy!

It was a good day!  Good job art kids!  You made some elementary kids very happy today and your  art teacher very proud  :)
