Update #2--7th grade watercolor

*****I scheduled this to publish several weeks ago.  Not sure what happened!!!

7th graders worked on an abstract watercolor piece.  I used THESE instructions.  Not sure which way they were supposed to hang, but they're abstract, right?  Doesn't matter!!!

This was a good, short lesson if you need a filler project for a few days.

Again, I don't have any step by step photos, just the finished products.

Good job, 7th grade.

Watercolor and Ink Compositions

High school students worked for a couple of weeks using watercolor and India ink to complete a project.  The lesson was found HERE.  We followed the steps pretty much to the letter with the exception of applying the ink.  The kids used calligraphy pens instead of brushes to apply the ink. Most students did the project correctly; however, there were a few blunders.  My own example consisted of two different paintings put together as I kept painting outside of the lines!

Here are some up close finished products . . .

All of the projects are on display outside of the art room.

Thanks for stopping in!

Abstract Watercolor Part 2

Here are a few more watercolor abstract close-ups from the junior high students. . .

I've tried to include everyone in this post and the last.  My apologies if I missed you!  Thanks for dropping in!

Abstract Watercolor

The junior high students have been working on creating an abstract watercolor.  I cannot take credit for the assignment.  I found it HERE.  We followed the step by step directions beginning with applying masking fluid and then adding a watercolor wash for the background.  Once the kids completed these first two steps, we began adding details with watercolors, watercolor pencils and/or colored pencils.  Here are some pictures from the first couple of days.

Making progress . . .

Finally, some up close finished paintings!

The kids enjoyed working on these.  It gave them an opportunity to experiment with various materials in a way that was ok if they messed up.  Stop by later in the week for an update on the high school art scene.

Until then!
